Trench Heating Melbourne

We can supply multiple Stepwarm Ostria units to heat a large area - laid in a trench...

and they are cheaper than a heat pump!

Each unit will provide 1.5 kilowatts of heat, so to heat a large area which requires 6 kilowatts of heat would need four units.

Fitted below windows, they can prevent condensation all on their own, without recourse to dehumidifying the air.

Installation costs can be minimal, as this type of heating is usually installed when a complete new build or refurbishment is carried out. So the heater casing can simply be ‘laid-in’ to the concrete floor at the build stage. If a concrete floor has to be cut out, then obviously there is the cost of that. If laying in suspended (wooden) flooring, then they should be laid in line with the supporting joists, so may only be suitable for two walls out of the four.

Control is usually by a programmable air thermostat, which will switch the heaters on and off according to room temperature - just as with other heating systems. Even if these are retro-fitted, control can be via a wireless air thermostat. An electric supply still has to be provided for the heater, obviously, but this can come from a convenient, existing electrical socket, as it may only be inches from the intended location for the heater. This is provided that the heating demand is 2 kilowatts or less. Much more than that and it will require its own dedicated supply.

It doesn’t inhibit furniture placement, and is almost invisible. And let’s not forget no pipes or boilers! So you have virtually no ongoing costs such as maintenance or servicing. Yes, they do require a little vacuuming-out once a year (just before you switch them all on for winter), and elements may fail in years to come. But the system could be seen as ‘costless’ for the future. Running costs can be easily calculated as the trench heaters are sized in watts.

With its inherent reliability, simplicity and modernity, it is the ideal heating system for contemporary homes and apartments. Though it also looks great in traditional-style homes thanks to its invisibility. If you would like to know more, get in touch with us.

HOW DOES OSTRIA HEATING COMPARE TO ELECTRIC UNDERFLOOR HEATING?

Let’s look at a 12 square metre room with a heat requirement of 1.5 kW:

wp6f43bf17.png

Warmup Foil - £513.00 (supply only) 1.68 kW

Labour - 4 hours at £50 per hour £200

Insulating boards & extra flooring costs £321

Total £1,034

Install can only be done at floor-laying stage. No good for carpets, tiles, or real wood, and overfloor must be laid in a manner in which it can be lifted should it fail. Not 100% efficient, and must be laid on insulating boards. Can be subject to damage.

StepWarm Ostria 1.5kW - £450.00 (supply only) 1.5 kW

Labour - 1 hour £50

Total £500

Install done at floor screed stage. Can be fitted into any flooring. Virtually 100% efficient.

RUNNING COSTS:

Each Ostria heater consumes 1.5 kW an hour (if it were on continuously). At 26p per kW this would be a running cost of 39p per hour. In reality, the air thermostat would cut it down or off.

GRILLES can be walked on.
